Information About Fthiotida Museums
This is one of the best archeological museums in Greece. Its collections are exhibited in two main halls in Akrolamia and include all findings dating back even to the 8th century BC that were brought to light by the archeological excavations in the Fthiotida prefecture. The exhibit is in chronological order.
The Folklore Museum was founded in 1984. It goal is to recover, salvage and preserve every kind of folklore material of the Lamia and Fthiotida area as well as preserve and continue the traditions and customs of the area. It holds a rich collection of local costumes, embroideries, utensils, everyday tools and other items and contributions of the Women’s Association in Lamia.
North of Oiti, at an altitude of 800m with a panoramic view of the Spercheios valley, lies the Monaastery of Agathonos. This monastery is an arc of nature which includes a botanic garden and the museum of the National Park. Part of the museum presents information and facts related to the preservations and protection of our natural inheritance while the other part is dedicated to the flora and fauna of Oiti and offers information regarding the geology, paleontology, climatology and ecology of the National Park.
Founded in 1973 by Royal Decree it is a peripheral office of the General State Archive and belongs to the Ministry of Education and Religion. It includes valuable hand-written and printed archival units such “Court Files” (1836-1934), Newspapers-Periodicals (1860–1999), school registers (1856-1950), Government Paper Publications (1833-1987), vestry books (1859-1925), electoral material (1952-1998) etc.
