Fokida - Information About Fokida Region
The prefecture of Fokida is in the centre of Greece and borders with the prefectures of Viotia to the east, Fthiotida to the north, Etoloakarnania to the west while to the south is the Corinthian Gulf. It stretches our for 2122m2, 36 of which are flatland, 560 are forest regions which the rest are semi-mountainous areas with low vegetations and rocky grounds.
There is a population of 44,183 which almost doubles in summer. The prefecture has 12 municipalities and its capital is Amfissa.
Fokida is an ever changing landscape of great natural beauty. Tall proud mountains (Giona, Parnassos, Vardousia, Oiti) welcome many skiers, hikers and mountain climbers every year and its beaches are some of the most popular destinations in summer.
In Amfissa and Galaksidi there are some very interesting celebrations during the Greek Halloween with festivals based on very old legends and traditions.
Also of great interest are the Navy Week in Itea and the Fishing Festivals of Eratini, Fokika, Skaribia and Agia Efthymia as well as the Rally Acropolis which takes place in the prefecture.
